Hatteras NC Fishing Report: Bluefish, Red Drum, Cobia & Tarpon Action

The weather is hot in Hatteras, North Carolina, and the fishing is too! We’ve been seeing some excellent action lately, with several different species keeping our anglers busy on the water. If you’re planning an Outer Banks fishing trip, this is a great time to get out and experience what Hatteras fishing has to offer.

Bluefish Action Has Been Excellent

The bluefish bite in Hatteras has been really good, providing some of our most consistent action lately.

We’ve been catching plenty of bluefish by casting jigs, and we’re also getting some exciting topwater action. There’s nothing quite like watching a hungry bluefish explode on a bait at the surface!

When we locate active fish, the action can get fast in a hurry. Casting jigs and topwater lures keeps our anglers involved in the fishing and makes for an exciting day on the water.

Red Drum Biting on Windy Days

The red drum fishing around Hatteras has also been producing fish, especially when the wind starts blowing.

On the breezier days, we’ve been fishing cut bait and finding some nice red drum. Wind can make conditions a little more challenging, but those conditions can also fire up the drum bite.

That’s one of the great things about fishing the Outer Banks. Conditions are constantly changing, and sometimes the days that look a little tougher can produce some great fish.

Tarpon and Cobia Are Around

We’ve also been seeing a few tarpon and cobia around Hatteras, and we’ve been fortunate enough to pick some up on occasion.

Neither species is an everyday guarantee, but knowing they’re swimming in these waters adds another level of excitement to every trip. You never know when a tarpon or cobia might suddenly turn an already good fishing trip into one you’ll remember for years.

Summer Fishing in Hatteras, NC

This is a great time to experience fishing in Hatteras and the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Between the consistent bluefish action, red drum biting on windy days, and the possibility of encountering tarpon or cobia, there are plenty of opportunities every time we head out on the water.

As summer continues, fishing conditions and patterns will keep changing, and we’ll keep following the fish.
